Gallery Description
“The owner of the establishment had a rare weakness for painters. He let them pay their bills with cubist paintings. He lent them money. He established interminable credit… And it must have been that providence favored him because with such an unhealthy diet…he became rich. When the war ended, he enlarged his establishment. And today he has transformed it into a luxurious café, whose walls boast hundreds of paintings, and on whose second level is a dance floor with a famous jazz band.” Alejo Carpentier, 1928
